"If You Could Hie to Kolob" is an interesting hymn. I recently read the text of the song, and realized that the fifth verse is very thought provoking. It reads,
There is no end to glory;
There is no end to love;
There is no end to being;
There is no death above.
Death is not the end of life; rather it is the beginning of an eternal life. Our time on earth is just a probationary state where we get a taste of what eternity is all about, and where we are given stewardship over our bodies to prove ourselves worthy of the celestial kingdom. We only suffer death once; our spirits are only separated from our bodies for a short time. We can never cease to exist, or how could we ever become Gods and Goddesses? Joseph Smith made this profound statement, "If men do not comprehend the character of God, they do not comprehend themselves."
Likewise, if we are like God we do not stop loving. Regardless of what I have done with my life, I have always felt loved. God will not turn away a repentant soul. His love is perfect in every sense of the word. He understands us like no other can. He wants us to be happy and to love others with all our heart, might, mind, and strength. It is not only his desire that we love each other, but a commandment.
Finally, the statement that there is no end to glory is powerful. God's glory and power cannot be diminished. He is omnipotent AND omniscient. As we try to live righteously, he will bless us with power to accomplish every needful thing. If we live worthily, we will receive glory that is incomprehensible.
